Published: Thursday, January 7, 2010
Parent-to-Parent presents the third of a series of five parent-planned interactive talks for all local parents of elementary and middle school students on Weds Jan 13. The talk will be held at the Milford Middle School from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. There is no fee for the talk and light refreshments will be provided. The topic is” Successful Kids: Parenting With Connection and Problem Solving. The Talk will focus on how traditional punishment doesn’t work, instead breeding resentment and power struggles. Parents will learn to genuinely connect with their children, communicating with respect and empathy, building a foundation of mutual trust and safety for problem-solving. While there is no registration required for adults, in order to assure adequate staffing, pre-registration is preferred for Games Galore. Weather cancellation date for the Talk is Thurs Jan 14.
The presenter, Judith Orme, MSW, LICSW, runs her own private practice in Amherst: Kids & Families First, addressing the needs of children, their parents & families as well as individual adults and couples through counseling, coaching, consulting and parent education. She also is a NH certified marital mediator, focusing on the best interests of children before, during and post-divorce.
“Games Galore”, a complimentary recreational program for students aged 3-14, will be held at the same time as the talk. Older students will have gym games, open gym time and a winter craft. For younger students there will be a seasonal craft, stories and games. A complimentary snack of “decorate your own cookie” and milk will be provided.
