NASHUA – Samita Mohanasundaram, 18, a senior at Nashua High School North, was named by the Siemens Foundation as one of the nation’s top achievers in Advanced Placement science and mathamatics courses. “The Siemens Foundation is proud to recognize these outstanding students and teachers for their extraordinary accomplishments,” said James Whaley, president of the New Jersey-based Siemens Foundation.

Food pantry donors won’t come up empty

MERRIMACK – A fundraiser that combines good art and good eats will be held in Merrimack to benefit local food pantries. The Merrimack High School art department and national art honor society has organized the fourth Empty Bowls event, in which participants buy a handmade bowl and fill it with locally made soup to help those in need.

NASHUA – Nashua-area parks and community spaces are about to become a lot cleaner thanks to the efforts of local youth who were recently awarded start-up funding for their United Way-Youth Venture teams by successfully presenting their change-making ideas before a panel of volunteers at Nashua Community College. Urban ABC’s from Souhegan High School in Amherst and Team Make a Scene, a collaboration of students from Nashua Community College and Nashua High School South, both plan to help beautify their communities by contributing their energy and talents and engaging others to do the same.

NASHUA – To say that Norah Sutton, director of volunteer services at Hunt Community, was surprised when her name was announced as this year’s winner of the Judith Lonergan Award would be an understatement. Each year, the New Hampshire Association of Volunteer Administrators awards a member for their outstanding achievement in volunteer administration and is named in honor of Judith Lonergan.

Amherst Garden club offers scholarships The Amherst Garden Club is offering two $1,500 scholarships to residents of Amherst or Mont Vernon who’ll be attending an institute of higher learning to study horticulture, botany, plant science, landscape design, environmental science as it relates directly to horticulture, or another related field. Applications are available from student services at Souhegan High School.
