The National Alliance for Mental Illness will be offering a free 12-week Family to Family Education Course beginning in early September for family and friends of individuals with serious mental illness. The curriculum focuses on current information about schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder (manic depression), anxiety and panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, co-occurring brain disorders and addictive disorders.

Eagle Scout Dominick DeFrancisco and Life Scout Brian Quimby planned the Court of Honor, with the theme of “Celebrating Our Troop’s History,” and acted as masters of ceremony.

AMHERST – At Their recent commencement exercises, Keene State College honored Amherst resident David Gagne with the 2010 Granite State Award. The award honored Gagne for his “accomplishments and dedication to service, which exemplify the best of the Keene State tradition and the Granite State spirit.” Gagne is the founder and managing general partner of IronWorks Executive Partners, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in team building for emerging and growing high-technology companies.

Claire Helfman, of Hollis, received the Hillsborough County Grassroots Award for District 5 at a Grassroots Dinner sponsored by the Hillsborough County Democratic Committee on June 26. The awards celebrated the people who have served Hillsborough County communities and progressive causes in extraordinary ways. More than 135 people attended the first-time event at Monadnock Country Club in Peterborough. Helfman recently stepped down as Hollis Democratic Committee chairman.

Merrimack Crimeline Awards Scholarships Feedback: Merrimack Crimeline awards two $1,000 scholarships yearly to Merrimack High School seniors. This year the Chief William Mulligan Scholarship was awarded to Christine Zale and the Chief Joseph Divine Scholarship was awarded to Netaya Kevorkian. Meetings of the Crimeline were suspended for the summer and will resume on September 1st.
