As chair of the committee to put together a fundraiser on behalf of the Milford Lions, I would like to take the opportunity to clarify any misconceptions readers may have concerning the dog contest that the Milford Lions will be holding on September 5th. This contest is NOT by any means a contest for dog owners to think that it is to ridicule or seek out ugly dogs. It is not the intention of this contest to do so and anyone thinking so, should be so informed NOW that it is NOT.

The National Alliance for Mental Illness will be offering a free 12-week Family to Family Education Course beginning in early September for family and friends of individuals with serious mental illness. The curriculum focuses on current information about schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder (manic depression), anxiety and panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, co-occurring brain disorders and addictive disorders.

Merrimack Crimeline Awards Scholarships Feedback: Merrimack Crimeline awards two $1,000 scholarships yearly to Merrimack High School seniors. This year the Chief William Mulligan Scholarship was awarded to Christine Zale and the Chief Joseph Divine Scholarship was awarded to Netaya Kevorkian. Meetings of the Crimeline were suspended for the summer and will resume on September 1st.

Conway Arena Donates to Marguerite’s Place

Marguerite’s Place received a generous $3000 grant from the Conway Arena and the Ice Rink Commission. This grant will be used to expand the outdoor play area, providing children with developmentally appropriate play and exercise equipment that will assist them with gross motor fitness. Marguerite’s Place plans to purchase a child size treadmill, a balance master, and a larger, gazebo style sandbox.

North Nashua Walgreens, under the leadership of store manager Sally Holloway, is sponsoring a drive to collect personal care items for Marguerite’s Place. Donations of shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hair accessories, liquid soap and the like can be made at the North Nashua Walgreens location on Rte 101A. The store has a conveniently located donation box and also has Marguerite’s Place brochures available for customers who would like more information about the programs for homeless women with children. Shoppers can make a real difference for Marguerite’s Place families simply by purchasing one extra item when they are shopping for their own personal care items.
