Looking back 60 years at Korean War
Military
Monday August 23, 2010
U.S. Forces Korea is gearing up for a full range of activities that began this summer, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Korean War and the strong U.S./South Korea alliance that maintains stability on the Korean peninsula. In today’s age, the protection of South Korea has become more important with the North Koreans rattling their nuclear sword. For three years of brutal fighting, the United Nations and America ended up in the same place as the start of the war – the 38th parallel – and there has never been a peace treaty signed. The Korean War has been called a police action, the “Forgotten War” and others names. We were in the Korean War for three years and lost 54,000 men and women.

Abel Emanuelli isn’t able to be in two places at once, but his strong, athletic figure has helped provide local support for soldiers just like himself. Emanuelli was disappointed that he wasn’t going to be at his younger brother Luis’ graduation from Plymouth State University in May. Emanuelli missed the graduation because he’s in Afghanistan as a sergeant in an infantry unit. Emanuelli’s mother, Jane Lockard, also was disappointed, but necessity is the mother of invention.
