1st-grade teacher helps Alvirne seniors take trip down memory lane

Sunday June 13, 2010
Upon reaching the end of the year, it’s customary for seniors to reflect back on their 12 years of schooling and recall the amazing memories they’ve collected, from coloring to learning cursive to solving differential equations. Several Alvirne High School seniors were fortunate enough to have a little help while reminiscing about their memories when first-grade teacher Kristine Beaudette, who formerly taught at Nottingham West Elementary School, visited Alvirne recently. Most students thought perhaps she was lost; after all, why would a first-grade teacher be walking down the halls of a high school? As it turned out, she wasn’t lost, but had a wonderful surprise for her former soon-to-graduate students. Benjamin Abucewicz, Aaron Bailey, Brian Barry, Melissa Bonanno, Molly Brun, Ryan Caron, Kathleen Clancy, Olivia Collins, Bradley Dupuis, Ray Estavillo, Timothy Harper, Matthew Kulis, Danielle Landry, Michael McLaughlin, Brittany Moniz, James Moran, Colby Myers, Nikia Quesnel, Derek Raitt, Deidre Riley, Jenna Ryan and Sara Vaclavik greeted their first-grade teacher with both surprise and joy. “I was so shocked to see her at Alvirne,” Clancy said. “Seeing her there, it really felt like we had come full circle in our education.” After the initial cheerful reunion, Beaudette distributed a folder to each of her former students.
Money plays huge role in Alvirne seniors’ college plans

Sunday April 4, 2010
As the end of the school year approaches, seniors are scrambling to finalize their post-Alvirne High School plans. Some plan to attend college, others will head directly to the work force, some will join the military and still others will take a “gap” year off before heading to college. For students preparing to attend college in the fall, the time is ticking away to notify their school of choice that they’ll enroll. But perhaps what’s more important is that the search is now on for financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and even jobs. Financial aid is a determining factor for many students when it comes to college choice.
