The AARP Tax-Aide Program provides free tax counseling, preparation and electronic filing services to senior citizens, as well as low- and middle-income taxpayers, in connection with their federal and state (New Hampshire and Massachusetts only) income tax returns. Your local AARP Tax-Aide Program is seeking volunteers with an interest in helping others at the Nashua Public Library and Senior Activity Center, where you will provide tax assistance services under the supervision of a local coordinator.

WILTON – The first budget hearing for the new combined Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative School District saw lots of confusion and lots of attempts to hold costs down. The final result, after a two-hour meeting at Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative High School that drew about 40 people, was an operating budget of $11.

WILTON – The town budget committee has prepared what they called a “pared down budget,” which was presented to about two dozen people on Wednesday at the annual public hearing. The plan contains no raises for town employees, smaller contributions to capital reserve funds, and the postponement of several projects.

WILTON – With the town facing a decline in revenues of almost 13 percent, the town Budget Committee has scaled back spending as much as possible, according to member Mark Whitehill. While the budget will not be finalized until after the public budget hearing Wednesday, preliminary figures show a decline in the operating budget of about 2.

CONCORD – The dropout rate dropped by more than half last year at high schools in Merrimack and Litchfield while it inched back up at schools in Amherst and Wilton, according to figures released Tuesday. The dropout rate at Nashua’s two high schools dropped only slightly last year.

WILTON – Elections will be a little confusing this year for voters in Wilton and Lyndeborough contemplating a new combined school board. “It seems a little weird,” Superintendent Trevor Ebel said in explaining why two of Lyndeborough’s four members will be on the Wilton ballot as well.
