District superintendent finalist bows out
LITCHFIELD - One of two finalists for the soon-to-be-open school superintendent job has dropped out, canceling a public meet-and-greet session planned for tonight.
Amanda Lecaroz, director of curriculum for the Litchfield School District, has withdrawn her candidacy for the job, school officials said Tuesday.
That leaves one candidate: Mark Blount, assistant superintendent of the Londonderry School District.
School Board members had planned to visit Lecaroz and Blount at their respective jobs and conduct one last round of interviews. It is unknown how having one remaining candidate will affect the process.
The meet-and-greet event scheduled for Wednesday would have given residents an opportunity to meet the candidates.
The board initially had three candidates for the job, but as soon as the last round commenced, Thomas McDonald, CEO of the Hyannis, Mass., company BeSafe Technologies, withdrew his candidacy.
A committee comprising residents, teachers and students chose the three finalists.
Elaine Cutler is retiring as superintendent at the end of the school year.
