Mom gives birth in car at station
MONT VERNON – Amy Wyman’s third child, come to find out, was in quite the hurry to see what this world is all about.
With a due date of next month, Wyman, who lives on Wallace Road with her husband Jake and two young children, never thought the intermittent pains she began feeling one night last week were contractions.
But by Thursday morning, she had other thoughts, and figured it was time to call for some help.
That set in motion a series of events that culminated in the newest member of the Wyman family – a girl – entering the world in the front seat of her parents’ car while it was parked in front of the McCollom Building, where the Mont Vernon Police Department is located.
Police Chief Kyle Aspinwall said the vehicle, which was reportedly being driven by Wyman’s mother-in-law, Marlene Wyman, pulled in about 9:30 a.m. Jake Wyman was reportedly out of town. By the time Cpl. Aaron Daigneault, who was on duty in the station, came out to assist, Aspinwall said, Amy Wyman had given birth and was lying on the car seat with the baby on top of her.
“The whole thing happened real fast,” Aspinwall said. “It was no more than 15 minutes from start until the ambulance arrived.”
Amherst Rescue Squad medics took Wyman and her daughter to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, where reports indicated that everyone did fine. It’s not known whether the Wymans have returned home.
Before she even began driving her daughter-in-law toward the hospital Thursday morning, Marlene Wyman had already driven to Mont Vernon from her home in Keene, reports said stated.
Aspinwall said in his 20 years of police work, it’s the first time he’s seen a mom handle her own birth pretty much by herself.
