Forums to deal with murder get change in venues
AMHERST – The locations for the two remaining trauma recovery forums being presented by the Amherst and Mont Vernon Community Recovery Group have changed, school officials said this week.
Thursday’s forum, which is geared toward parents of elementary school-age children, will be at Amherst Middle School, starting at 7 p.m.
The third forum is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the Mont Vernon Village School, also at 7 p.m. It is geared toward parents of adolescents.
The locations were incorrect in a Jan. 12 Telegraph story.
The Community Recovery Group, a 16-member committee of local educators, staff and residents, organized the forums as a way to help local residents cope with the effects of the Oct. 4 home invasion in Mont Vernon that left Kimberly Cates dead and her 11-year-old daughter Jaimie seriously injured.
Roughly 50 residents turned out for the first forum Monday night.
The forums are being led by trauma and crisis recovery experts Jeff Weir and Dr. Kevin Becker, consultants with Concord-based Organizational Resilience International, who were hired by the School District to work with the Community Recovery Group.
More information on these and other school-related meetings can be found on the SAU 39 Web site, www.sprise.com.
