NASHUA – Sue Franklin, of Brookline, raised $2,192 for the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, which is the amount it costs to run the shelter for one day after in-kind donations.
HSFN calls this the Jack Rice Challenge. Jack Rice was an 8-year-old student at the World Schools who wanted to help the humane society but was too young to volunteer in the shelter. Instead, he raised enough money to run the shelter for one day, and the Jack Rice Challenge was born!
Franklin made her donation Oct. 3 at Walktoberfest, which is HSFN’s largest fundraiser of the year.
Any individual, business or school who takes on the Jack Rice Challenge and raises enough money to run the shelter for one day will receive a framed certificate indicating the day and date they ran the shelter, a photo and press release sent to local media and a private tour of the shelter. Ways to raise the money is not limited, and creativity is encouraged!
