AARP needs volunteers for tax program
Published: Thursday, December 24, 2009
The AARP Tax-Aide Program provides free tax counseling, preparation and electronic filing services to senior citizens, as well as low- and middle-income taxpayers, in connection with their federal and state (New Hampshire and Massachusetts only) income tax returns.
Your local AARP Tax-Aide Program is seeking volunteers with an interest in helping others at the Nashua Public Library and Senior Activity Center, where you will provide tax assistance services under the supervision of a local coordinator. Other locations are Merrimack, Amherst, Greenville, Hudson, Pelham, Milford, New Ipswich and Wilton.
Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome. You do not need to be an AARP member, a retiree or have previous tax training and extensive computer experience to volunteer.
Tax-Aide Program volunteers will receive approximately two weeks of in-classroom training in tax law, procedures for income tax preparation, and the use of “Taxwise” software, beginning Jan. 5 at Daniel Webster College in Nashua. Upon successful completion of at-home, open-book testing, volunteers will receive an IRS certification.
Tax-Aide volunteers are expected to provide tax assistance services at least once each week during the 2010 tax season from Feb. 1-April 15.
