‘See How They Run’ at Milford High: Spectacular
Published: Thursday, October 15, 2009
The latest hustle and bustle throughout Milford High School seemed to start just a few short weeks ago when the cast of this year’s play was posted outside the theater classroom. Since that day, much time and preparation has gone into this year’s performance.
Every year, Milford High School’s Drama Department is blessed with fresh talent, knowledgeable educators and a high number of spectators on show nights. Over the years, Milford’s talent has done a spectacular job executing performances of “Rumors,” “Noises Off” and “Fools.” It’s expected that viewers will once again be pleased by the spectacular performance of this year’s play, “See How They Run” by Phillip King.
Senior Liz Posse, who’s playing Miss Skillon, has been involved in several of the productions.
“My favorite part of being in the play is the professionalism involved, as well as feeling myself improve with each rehearsal,” she said.
Senior Emily Borne has the role of Penelope Toop.
“I love helping out with the plays here,” she said. “Ever since freshman year, the atmosphere has been so contagious. I was on the lighting crew freshman and sophomore year, and I was cast last year.”
Craig Gallant, the theater instructor at Milford High, gave a summary of the show:
“The play is a classic British farce that is about mistaken identity and physical humor,” he said. “It is at a small English vicarage on the eve of their harvest festival being overrun with various men in vicar suits, including a bishop, a U.S. army soldier, an escaped Soviet spy and even two actual vicars.”
Gallant shared some of his thoughts on this year’s cast.
“I think that this play is going very well compared to years past,” he said. “This particular cast is not only talented, they have experience with us and outside of the program. They are intelligent in that they learn things quickly, they have good instincts and they can focus well when they need to focus.
“All in all, it’s a great group of kids.”
Also in the cast are junior Shannon Rota as Ida, junior Hollis Johnson as Reverend Toop, sophomore Nick Hammes as Clive, junior Ben Carmen as The Intruder, senior Dan Thompson as The Bishop, senior Patrick Quinn as Reverend Arthur Humphrey and junior Jack Micozzi as Sergeant Towers.
“Our cast is really an amazing group, and that coupled with good direction and hard work will make the product pretty fabulous,” Borne said. “Everything from the rehearsal process to tech week to the finished project is so rewarding.
“I love theater anyway, and here it’s just a great experience.”
Performances will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 19-21 and 3 p.m. Nov. 22.
