NAMI 12-week class on mental illness starts March 8th

NASHUA- The National Alliance on Mental Illness, Nashua affiliate, will be offering a free 12 week Family to Family Education course for family and friends of individuals with serious mental illness.
We explore issues such as: What do I do if there is a crisis? How can we get a clear diagnosis? How can my relative and I communicate better? What are effective treatment models/methods? What are all these medications for? How do I take care of myself in all this - and why should I?
The curriculum focuses on current information about schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder (manic depression) panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, co-occurring brain disorders and addictive disorders.
The course material includes up-to-date information about medications and current research related to brain disorders as well as communication techniques, problem solving skills, and self-care. It will balance education and skill training, discussion of issues surrounding worry and stress, emotional support and empowerment.
